Why Chasing Angels?

'The poet, or perhaps the poem itself is the angel.' - Deryn Rees Jones.

Who whispers those words to us late at night so that we simply have to sneak out of bed and write them down, quick? How do artists reconcile the mad, beautiful, impractical necessity of expressing themselves, rather than settle for the simpler life?

Where does inspiration come from? Why do we create?

How do we keep feeling alive, awake, fresh to life… among the humdrum of routine / family life / work / bureaucratic everydayness? How do we keep our minds and spirits alive to listening and playfulness? What sparks new ideas?

These are some of the questions that keep me writing Chasing Angels - a weekly excuse to stay on the hunt for inspiring, unusual, hilarious things that fuel the fire of creativity in my mind.

Who am I?

Hello, I’m Agnes. I’ve been writing in earnest for over twenty years, and have a Master in Creative Writing from Oxford University specialising in poetry and screenplays. I’ve had a few poems published here and there, but this blog has been a way of helping me return to writing after a 7-year break running a family business.

Right now, I live in the Cotswolds, UK, in a quintessential cottage with a stream in the garden. You’ll find snippets of my life in my writing - gardening and the landscape around me, a family, a puppy… But also of where I’ve come from - a lifelong spiritual questing, raving, healing, the endless search for adventure.

My bread and butter comes from making websites - agnesdavis.uk - and telling stories at a sustainability company where I work part-time as a Content Specialist.

I’m also prioritising my writing at the moment, working on a few longer projects more consistently. Chasing Angels has been an integral part of my creative recovery after a long sabbatical. And I love the freedom it gives me to play, play, play, alongside the discipline and deadline of showing up every week.
