Now that the cow parsley has shaken out her hair, and the sun is lingering to run his fingers through it, I think I am nearly there, ready to think again.
I haven’t been able to think for quite a while because life has thrown a hurdle race at me this year, which feels like just another leg of several years of hurdling. I’m getting good at it – jumping and running, jumping and running jumping and – mid air – scoping the paces I’ll need to master the next landing, the next leap, taking a deep breath to scale again and landing on my feet still running.
It's been several years now that I hear myself saying aloud to people – I’m nearly there – wherever it is I’ve been trying to get to, the destination always shifting as it comes into reach. Just very recently, I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve actually arrived, and perhaps for a while now I might be able to stop running. I’ve started trying to walk more slowly down the street anyway, to practice.
But this Chasing Angels is absolutely not about me. That little prelude of excuses is a loosely disguised apology for being quiet so long. I came here for a dear friend who has been nearly there with something she’s been working on for a very long time. And now that the finish is in sight, she has taken the brave step of reaching out for support to get the last practical bits over the line.
