I am writing this by moon, candle and screen light.
The moon visiting through a window where I can look up to it and see also my own ghost reflecting, watching.
It’s late. But I’ve made a promise to show up and it’s a promise to my highest self, who will henceforth, I hope, be doing the writing for me…
10 things I have loved this week:
1. Washing the floors,
because I have a spare hour on a Friday afternoon for the first time in years.
2. The way the chickens
hop up and chatter at me when I give them a clean bed.
3. And then the robin comes
so close, to get in on the action.
4. Therapeutically experimenting
with embroidery while watching films about complicated creative people: The Angel at My Table (Dir. Jane Campion again, on Netflix), the Andy Warhol and Bridget Riley documentaries on iPlayer.
5. The way nature floods over social media
when the sky clears and frost fingers the earth.
6. Writing things, getting overwhelmed
by kind feedback, feeling scared of writing more things, remembering this cycle of self-consciousness, ploughing on anyway.
7. The battle and brilliance of Morning Pages.
Three sides of A4 scribbled every morning with tea, prescribed by Julia Cameron for The Artist’s Way (which I’ve started again this year after a friend reminded me how life changing it is).
Morning pages that you moan through, bore yourself through, list the to-do list through, write ‘I don’t know what to write now’ through and always, always receive surprising golden breakthroughs through.
8. Signing up for
9. Going outside to notice the stars
have moved and remembering it’s us that moved, that we are always moving, turning. That life is a kaleidoscope endlessly showing us the same elements newly.
10. Blitzing my bookshelves
and fishing out the next reading list…
Happy weekending everyone.
Much love to all.
